### What we like

Writes go to object storage so you don’t need to manage disks or replication (outside of configuring the storage layer). Reads are cached (including after write, so a read from an write op doesn’t require an additional request). Object storage write latency can be ignored by avoiding await on put (sacrificing durability).

### Tradeoffs

Transactions not supported yet. It’s a Rust library without any other language bindings (yet). Minimal documentation.

## Is SlateDB a fit?

Based on [Console’s review published on 2024-10-10](<https://console.dev/tools/slatedb#review_e9e52fffe90f114b180fe33a7b21f84053f46916a2ae4bcf1a68af5e1d955a0c>).

Summary updated: 2026-10-16

### Why consider it

It allows for efficient database operations by caching reads and avoiding await on put for object storage writes.

### Keep in mind

It lacks support for transactions and has minimal documentation.
