What we like

Makes it easy to build a live-updating web app with a document database. Strictly-typed fully relational schemas defined in code (optional, but recommended). Data mutations are automatically reflected and re-rendered. Built-in dashboard and logging. Can deploy to a hosting provider like Netlify or Vercel, and Convex handles the backend.

Tradeoffs

TypeScript only. All functions must be deterministic, so you need to call external functions to call third-party APIs e.g. Stripe, Vercel functions, etc. Convex provides a client to share the state with those functions.
